Cape Kamenjak and Medulin: Boat Trip, Quad or Independent Visit?

Updated October 16, 2026 · 5 min read

A rugged Cape Kamenjak cove with pale rocks, low green scrub and deep blue Adriatic water

The answer first. Choose the full-day boat trip from Medulin with cave swimming for a relaxed sea day. Rent a quad in Premantura when driving is the activity. Visit independently when you want to choose coves and stay flexible, but expect marked roads, designated parking and a seasonal motor-vehicle fee.

Three ways to experience the cape

The Kamenjak authority says the protected landscape can be reached from Premantura by car, bicycle or boat. Pedestrians and cyclists enter without charge; motor vehicles pay a fee that varies by period and vehicle type. Its visitor code requires drivers to remain on marked roads and use designated parking. Those rules make the independent option flexible, but not unrestricted.

Boat or land?

The Medulin boat trip avoids driving inside the reserve and puts swimming at the centre. It does not give the same freedom to linger at a chosen beach. A quad rental is not simply transport to a cove: you are paying for the vehicle plus the Kamenjak entry ticket, and should check the route, licence requirements and what happens in poor weather on the booking page.

With a car you can carry beach equipment and leave on your own schedule. The surfaces and rental restrictions matter, so ask the rental company whether the intended roads are permitted. Do not infer insurance cover from the fact that ordinary vehicles use the entrance.

If you decide to drive, compare Pula car hire and then verify the excess, deposit, CDW scope and road exclusions with the chosen provider.

Our recommendation

For most holidaymakers wanting Kamenjak as a sea experience, the five-hour boat trip from Medulin is the simplest choice. Go independently for control over time and coves; choose the quad only when the ride itself is the reason for the day.
