Pula to Cape Kamenjak by Car: Is the Drive Worth It, or Is the E-Bike Tour Better?

The answer first. If the car is already booked for other days, drive: the cape is a short hop from Pula and you decide where to stop. If you would hire one only for this, the e-bike tour to Cape Kamenjak covers the same stretch without parking or road worries. For a swim-and-lunch day with nobody driving, the full-day boat trip from Medulin is the better fit.

The route

Premantura, the village that gives access to the cape, is about 10 kilometres from Pula according to the reserve’s website. The natural first stop on the way is Vinkuran, where the ancient Roman quarry of Cave Romanae sits; the e-bike listing puts it 4 kilometres into its ride. From there the coast road continues to Premantura and the cape itself. The e-bike ride covers about 11 kilometres from the quarry to Školjić beach, so you can use that as a guide for what a leisurely drive-and-walk morning looks like.

Go early, park once and walk from there. Moving the car between coves wastes the time you saved by driving.

Rules at the entrance

The reserve says motor vehicles pay an entrance fee in summer, while pedestrians and cyclists enter free. Its price list sets tickets by period, so check the dates matching your visit instead of taking an amount from a blog. Its code of conduct tells drivers to observe the speed limit, stay on marked roads, use the designated parking areas and not park on green areas. Hold to that even if another car has pulled onto the grass.

Before you enter, ask the rental company whether unpaved roads inside the reserve are covered. A clause about road surfaces is the usual way a small scrape becomes your cost; the excess and deposit guide explains how to read it.

The e-bike tour has only a handful of reviews, so treat its 4.7 as a first impression, not a verdict. It is also physical: you cycle about 30 kilometres in three hours, according to its title and description. The boat trip cruises past Kamenjak park, the Premantura peninsula and the Porer lighthouse, then stops at the Golumbera cave and Ceja island, with a freshly prepared lunch, so nobody has to drive.

Our recommendation

Hire a car for this drive only when it serves other days too, then compare the rental offers. Otherwise book the e-bike tour for the coast on a bike, or the boat trip from Medulin if swimming matters more.
